Car Importation Update

Aw mum do we have to sell it?Previously, the importation charge made was based on value of the vehicle; now it is based on emissions as well, resulting in cheaper importation costs for newer more economical cars. The gas guzzlers get mugged, which is proper and correct. There are other factors to consider if you are thinking of importing your cherished banger......

This is by way of an introduction to the Marinas from Oliva down to Torrevieja. Valencia are of course hosting the Americas Cup and if I get time I will include those near and around Valencia. Comments and recommendations are welcome from those salty sea-dogs who have personal experience of short and longer stays. We would also like information on anchorages, sailing hints and the sailing around the Balearics.Blue Flag gives lists of Marinas, including those with moorings for larger vessels and those dedicated to small craft and sport. They also include beaches, after all that’s what the Blue Flag is about, clean beaches that have passed the European standard. I have sorted them for you to save you time (but in no particular order!):

The Club Nautico at Campello (near Alicante)- I assume like the other Club Nauticos have moorings for yachts and power boats in addition to small craft with the usual facilities. The website is unfortunately under construction, so you would have to contact them on (0034 96 5633400)

Club Nautico at Moraira- this one I know personally and is in a lovely location in front of the town. 620 moorings with secure car parking. Club Nautico de Moraira, Port of Moraira, Tel. 96 574 4461 Email: nmoraira@ctv.es

Club Nautico of Altea - Has all the usual social and repair facilities and is apparently operating under ISO9001 and 14001 which are accepted standards of quality management. If my Spanish is good enough, seems to cater for smaller craft up to 7 metres but I could be wrong as they seem to have a 20 ton travelift

Calpe’s Club Nautico just a short sail from Altea is hosting the”Open match racing world championship” on 12th-17th Sept this year and is situated below the “Peñon de Ifach” or Dragon’s Head, the southerly most point of the Sierra Bernia, which looks rather reptilian! The Peñon must give good shelter from the east and is a spectacular backdrop. Has all the usual facilities plus a dry dock. Close to lots of fish restaurants and the fishing harbour. Hope you like fish! The beaches are very good as well. Also has ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and was EMAS certificated in 2002. Sorry website in Spanish but has 10 ton crane and 35 ton travelift

I will be trying to cover them all asap and to take my own photos, watch this space. Don’t forget to comment on your experiences!

Mike Pick (yes I have done sailing as well arrrrr)
